A sitting posture that doesn’t kill
Posted by: | CommentsSitting kills your back.
That’s a bold statement. Is it true?
In 1982, researchers affiliated with the Cooper Institute in Dallas surveyed affluent individuals and their sitting habits.
The study confirmed that people who spent more than 23 hours a week sitting, watching TV or sitting in the office, had a 64% percent greater chance of dying from heart disease. One take-away is that less activity burns fewer calories.
But why does sitting kill your back?
The scoop on disc pressure and pain
If you understand how the discs work between the vertebras of your spine, you will easily understand what happens to your discs when you sit more then 8+ hours per day. Look at this chart below.
We can sometimes neglect to appreciate our feet and realize how important they are.
Think about it − our feet move us from one place to the next, whether by walking, running, or sprinting. We stand in line or in place at social events, and our feet can even help us earn a living by taking us where we need to go.
However, wear and tear can take its toll on our feet. During our 40s and 50s (and sometimes even before), our feet begin to look nothing like they did when we were children; functional restriction comes as a result of not only neglecting our muscles and tendons but also through incorrect shoe wear.
Confused about Protein Shakes?
Posted by: | CommentsThere are so many reports coming out every day about what you should, could, or must eat.
Now, the latest scare is Protein Shakes. The Consumer Reports Magazine July 2010 tested protein powders for heavy metals such as cadmium, arsenic and mercury. In summary, it was found that some of the protein powders contents exceeds the maximum limits for one or two of those contaminants in dietary supplements proposed by U.S. Pharmacopei, the federally recognized authority that sets voluntary standards for healthy products.
Should you be concerned?
Lets look at some facts:

Last-minute shape-up-for-summer tips
Posted by: | CommentsThe beach. Relaxing for many but stressful for others.
Let’s be honest. Have you been on a beach and thought, “I wish I’d lost a few pounds,” before the bikini, Speedo or bathing trunks hugged your body? All you could do was pull in your stomach and barely breathe while walking on the beach. Not fun.
But it’s a recurring story for many of you around the world who enjoy the beach and the sun. This past week, three inquires came in regarding emergency weight loss, wanting it to happen in just 4 to 5 weeks. “Interesting,” I thought to myself, “now I seem to become the go-to guy for emergency weight loss.”
I have a few tricks up my sleeve. What do expect, having been in the industry more then 17 years, with multiple certifications in fitness, a masters in nutrition and a degree in the culinary arts?
