Weight Loss: Assess your readiness to change!

By

women-with-plannerWhether it’s in the park or on the beach, eavesdrop on conversations among women in their late 40’s and you will hear how hard it is to lose weight and in particular, to fight the growing belly bulge.

Enough said. Enough talking. Find out if you are ready to change. For each question, rate your response between 1 and 5 (1 stands for very low, 2 for low, 3 for medium, 4 for high, and 5 for very high):

a. Are you motivated to change?

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5

b. Do you get things done when you focus on a project? Or is it difficult to focus on one task?

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5

c. How clean is your desk?

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5

d. Have you addressed the big picture on why you gained weight?

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5

e. Are you willing to check in with your emotions and address them?

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5

f. Do you follow an accountability system?

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5

g. Would you hike a mountain every day if you lived close to it?

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5

h. Are you willing to adjust your schedule to make your workout a priority?

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5

i. Can you reappropriate time spent somewhere else to pursue something new?

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5

j. Have you been on diets before but failed many times?

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5

18 – 33 points: You are right in the middle. You want to change but you are not committed. You talk about it and put it off to some indeterminate date, am I right? Why not set a date today when you will begin to get busy with a plan, with your goals?

34 – 50 points: You are not yet ready. This can be for many reasons. Perhaps something emotional has affected you or you’re having difficulty coping with a situation in your life. Keep you head up. It will get better. Promise yourself that you’ll re-visit your plan once your emotional equilibrium is re-established.

Stay focused.
