Burn fat by feeding it


Fat! That word alone makes many of my clients wince.  “I am fat over here and over there.” “There’s a fat roll on my back, on the stomach and around my knees.”
I’ve heard it all. And yet so many don’t eat fat to burn the fat. What I am I talking about?

Our body fats

We have various forms of  body fats: white fat, brown fat and subcutaneous fat. White fat is the fat that we see around our stomach and our thighs when we take too many calories in and don’t burn them. Subcutaneous fat is the fat in our adipose tissue. This is the fat layer in our skin. The thickness of this layer gives us our body fat percentage, which is tracked and measured in any sophisticated weight loss program. And the brown adipose tissue can be found deep within the body, surrounding your vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, and adrenal glands. It also cushions your spinal column, neck and major thoracic blood vessels. This is the kind of fat that helps us burn more fat; it can be turned on or turned off to calorie conservation.

Eat fat to burn fat

You can do this with fat–but not just any kind of fat. You need fat that is high in Gamma Linolenic acid. Gamma linolenic acid is a precursor of prostaglandins, which regulate the brown adipose tissue by acting as a catalyst to either turn it on or off, as previously noted.

In Europe, we are used to consuming evening primrose oil for many health-related issues. Similarly, we use flax seed oil often—it is another one that is high in Gamma Linolenic acids and high in omega 3 and omega 6.

In the 80’s the belief was in order to lose fat,  you shouldn’t eat fat. Yet, research has proven that fats are important for losing weight–wait, let me restate this–are absolutely necessary for rapid weight loss, longevity and good health.

The best fat-loss results have been accomplished with adding 1 tsp of evening primrose oil or 2 tsp of ground flax seeds to your morning breakfast.
