Stretch Marks & Cellulite, Oh My! What are you going to do about them?
ByStretch marks and cellulite are two things almost every woman of any age fights. It can be so frustrating when you have lost the weight, worked hard yet still have stretch marks and cellulite. Are there any treatments that can say goodbye to cellulite and stretch marks? First, let’s understand the condition:
What is cellulite and what are stretch marks?
Both conditions have to do with your skin. Our skin is the largest organ on our body and the outside shows the condition on the inside.
Cellulite is subcutaneous fat stored below the top layer of the skin, in the dermis and epidermis. Cellulite has the surface appearance of an orange peel, as the fat is irregularly structured into random dimples. Until today, there was no one single cure; instead there were many strategies put forth that diminished cellulite.
Stretch marks result from the rapid stretching of the skin during growth spurts or during weight gain, and can result from either gaining fat or muscle. They can appear anywhere at the body, but are most likely to show up at or near the navel, breasts, upper arms, underarms, back, thighs, hips and bottom. Stretch marks happen when the skin is subjected to more stretching force than it actually handle; it just simply tears. Hormonal changes, genetics, diet and exercise can improve stretch marks and reduce cellulite.
If you are dealing with either or both, cellulite and stretch marks, I will be honest with you; there are ways that you can somewhat improve them. Yet, to fully disappear? If this were possible, the lines outside dermatologists’ offices would be far longer than the lines for the cheap versions of the iPad.
Here are top tips to improve the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite.
6 Ways to Love the Skin You’re In
To improve a skin condition, you need to focus on strategies that improve your skin, which goes hand in hand with your lifestyle, diet and mental outlook.
Hydrate – skin that is dehydrated looks wrinkled and not elastic. Make sure you take in plenty of fluids.
Antioxidants – free radicals damage cells and ly ages us. Take your antioxidants to weaken free radical damage on a cellular level.
Fat – One of the measurements taken to determine your body fat are skinfold measurements. By gently pinching your skin with calipers at various places, you can determine your overall body fat. Reduce your body fat to reduce the subcutaneous fat below your skin. Less subcutaneous fat below your skin dimples your skin less.
Circulation – improve your overall circulation through sweating. The best method is through exercise as there are many other benefits at the same time. Another strategy in Europe is to take steam baths or saunas.
Breathe – sit down and increase your oxygen, calm your mind and reduce your stress. A high stress lifestyle has been associated with high levels of catecholamines, which have been shown to have a direct impact on evolution of cellulite. Close your eyes, sit or stand, and breathe 32x slowly in and out of your nose while your belly expands (with the inhale) and flattens (with the exhale).
Creams – Don’t waste your money if you think you can rub away cellulite with creams. But if you want to take care of the elasticity and overall condition of your skin, find a cream with Alpha Lipoic acid, ester C and vitamin E. Basic formulas works best.
Stay focused,
